Assumptions
What this page models
- £100,000 current balance
- Investment type set to mixed, so £50,000 in funds and £50,000 in shares or ETFs
- No monthly contribution, so no regular dealing is modelled
- No US-stock FX assumption
At £100,000 the gap between percentage and flat platform fees becomes hard to ignore. A 0.15% charge is £150 a year and a 0.25% charge is £250 a year at this size, while a fixed subscription stays the same whether the account holds £20,000 or £200,000. This is the portfolio size where flat-fee platforms usually take over the top of the ranking.
iWeb ranks first here because it charges no annual account fee at all; it makes its money on £5 dealing charges, and this scenario models no trades. Add regular dealing in the calculator and its position changes. The model includes platform, online dealing, and FX fees where relevant, and excludes fund ongoing charges, bid-offer spreads, stamp duty where applicable, and any market movement.
